Hey friends! I hope this post finds you well. I’m always on the lookout for a good self tanner. As some of you might know, I was diagnosed with melanoma a few years ago. After 4 surgeries (4 surgeries and 4 repairs) this momma avoids the sun like the plague. I’m great now and have been free and clear for 3 1/2 years now!!! I couldn’t be more excited to say that! Even before I got melanoma, I was using self tanners or I would get a spray tan at the salon. I have been on the hunt for years… yes, YEARS for the best self tanner with the best price. I’ve literally tried it all from the Jergens Natural Glow, Palm Beach mystic in a can, Xen-Tan, tan towelettes to my favorite currently, St Tropaz. And there are many self tanners that are not even worth mentioning. This is my review of the ones I’ve recently tried and if they worked, streaked, smelled ok and if the price worth the product.
Jergens Natural Glow – it did absolutely nothing and smelled weird. It’s so cheap and clearly there is a reason. Save your money! It is not worth it.
Palm Beach mystic in a can – loved it at the time, but it was streaky, smelled bad and you had to wait the 6 hours like getting an actual spray tan. Although it is cheaper than the actual Mystic or VeraSpa spray tans, as you can use the can multiple times. The price is worth all you get in the can.
Tan towels self towelette – I loved them. It didn’t streak, but smelled bad. It is definitely a good option and I used these for awhile. The bad part was you typically would use more than 1 towelette and it got expensive. If you get this option go for the full body towelette. I still think this is a pricey option for the use you are actually getting out of each towelette.
Xen-tan – it was my favorite until I found St Tropaz. The older bottles smelled like coffee and the newer bottles smell like cake (clearly the cake option was WAY better). It would stay on all day, but sometimes was a little streaky. It was definitely worth the price. Once it is rubbed in and dried your tan looked dark and natural.
St Tropaz– currently my favorite. It actually smells fine. It last all day and as long as you wait 10 minutes for it to dry, your good to go all day. Since it’s a moose, it doesn’t really streak. How to use: put it on after your sunscreen. Let it dry for 10 minutes, then if you need it darker… reapply again. Then put your clothes on. I usually put it on my face in the mornings then after it is dry I apply my make up. It doesn’t rub off on your clothes either. Seriously my favorite by far at this current time.
These are my favorites ranked:
1. Self Tanner (Absolute BEST)
2. Self Tanner
3. Self Tanner
I’ll keep ya posted if a better self tanner. Enjoy your week! Much love, Sue
I saw on an Instagram post that you shared some tips on applying self tanners. But I think it was in your stories and so they’ve already disappearing. 🙁 Do you have those anywhere? On the blog or in your highlights???
I’d love to hear them. I want to start using one but I’m scared I’ll turn out orange and streaky.
Thanks!

I will try to do a tutorial on the blog so people can revert back to it.
